WELCOME to RACE networkRFID

Race networkRFID is designed to become a federating platform to the benefit of all European Stakeholders in the development, adoption and usage of RFID.

The network considers its mission is to creates opportunities and increases the competitiveness of European Member States in the area of RFID thought leadership, development and implementation. At the same time it will position RFID technology within the mainstream of information and communications technology (ICT).

Word from the European Commission:

"RFID will form the basis of better and safer healthcare, drastically improved supply chain management, low cost environmental monitoring for a cleaner, more sustainable future. We need a pro-active European approach so that we can benefit from the advantages of RFID while giving citizens, consumers and businesses choice, transparency and control."

Vivane Reding, former European Commissioner for Information Society & Media

"Let me say that I am quite happy about how the RFID Recommendation is unfolding. Industry is fulfilling ahead of time the role assigned to them and no privacy problems having been reported to me. But I want to take the occasion to urge all stakeholders that play a role in its implementation to not lose the momentum: the so-called RFID signs or logos need to be developed, the retail provisions need to be put in place and, altogether, all the measures need to be implemented. I am confident that this soft-approach is working but I remind everyone that stronger approaches are always a possibility. My intention is therefore to take up the big challenges of the Internet of Things, as my predecessor did with RFID."

european mapWith RFID experts from 17 countries and representatives from four of Europe's leading research and standards organisations, RACE networkRFID will build on the EU's already substantial investment in RFID research to increase awareness and grow the European market for these rapidly evolving, world-changing technologies.

Our Vision:

"To provide a RFID network of excellence that creates opportunities and increases the competitiveness of European Member States in the area of RFID thought leadership, development and implementation. At the same time it will position RFID technology with the mainstream of information and communications technology."

The global RFID market is forecast to grow from the current $5.3 billion to $27 billion by 2018 - with the European market confidently expected to show significant growth. RACE networkRFID will meet the pressing need to generate greater awareness and uptake and the exploitation of user-facing opportunities for innovation and enterprise. It will capitalise on work done by EU projects such as CASAGRAS andGRIFS to confirm Europe's position as a leading force in RFID.
